Flowers on the lemon trees

Winter season is fully underway here at Granja Escola. We have been very busy planting all the Winter vegetables, ready to pick in the coming months. More broadbeans and curly lettuce as well as peas! They are starting to sprout lovely strong green shoots and leaves are starting to appear. Every day something new appears and today it was clear that the spinach has begun to grow. We were all excited to see how quickly things can grow. Aleix and Guillem worked hard making sure the potatoes and beans were watered. Maria and Elsa helped to dig holes and plant more broadbeans and Julia made sure to water them afterwards.

Today we looked at the fruit trees and found new flowers on the lemon trees! How exciting! Maria and Elsa found two yellow lemons and got to bring them home! We also collected hazelnuts today ready to make Nutella in the next couple of weeks!

Along with all that excitement we made beautiful leaf prints and sang songs. ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ and ‘Old Mcdonald had a farm’ were favourites with the children, we also revised the rainbow song.

Todays story was ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. The children were all shocked to see how fat the caterpillar grew after eating a monstrous amount of food. They enjoyed doing the actions and noises and learned lots from interacting with the story.
