Olympic torch

9 Aug 2016

The starting pistol has been fired for another day of sportsmanship on the farm!
Our little athletes warmed up in the morning, learning the different colours of the Olympic Rings, which they can now tell you are blue, yellow, black, green and red! They also learnt the word for the popular Olympic sport 'swimming' and then coloured an athlete doing exactly that! In the afternoon they worked as a team to harvest some eggs from our generous chickens. They then got into the artistic spirit and made creative and colourful collages of the famous Olympic torch!
Still bursting with energy at the end of the day, they all decided to count how many jumps they could do on the trampoline. They jumped so much that we think they should consider entering themselves into the games next time!
Our amateur athletes in class 2 limbered up with a sport themed jigsaw and were given a copy of the Olympic oath to read over and follow when taking part in our unique 'Farm Olympics'.
"The most important thing in the 'Farm' Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle.
The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well"
They went on to compete in the 100m sprint to Alex's classroom and back again. Orlaith and Jordi won by miles and were crowned the Usain Bolts of the class!
They then cooled down with an arty project and made 3D Olympic torches and paraded around the farm with them!
The triathletes of class 3 dived straight into learning all the different vocabulary of the Olympic sports and were given multiple choice questions on this topic.
In the afternoon they competed in some traditional Farm Olympic games, including the 'running backwards race', the 'balance something on your head race' and last but not least 'running with an object between your knees race'. Great spectator sports!
They also started to create the customary class banner that incorporates everything they have learnt over the week! Stay tuned to see the finished piece, it is always an impressive work of art!
